Open ECX celebrates recent growth with further investment and appointment of Wayne Blakemore as CEO

With almost 3000 trading relationships across 26 countries processing monthly transactions worth £160 million, Open ECX facilitates automated electronic transactions across a large community of construction businesses and suppliers, including Hilti, Skanska, MP Moran and Wolseley. In order to sustain its growth, Open ECX has decided to further invest in all areas and to strengthen and restructure its management to guide the business into its next stage.

The growth of Open ECX from half a dozen people in 2015 to now almost 30, as well as its growth in customer base and revenue, has seen the business change considerably from the original concept founded by Matthew Jones.

Open ECX is therefore pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Blakemore as Chief Executive Officer from January 2019. Wayne has been a Non-Executive Director on the board of Open ECX since April 2015 and was part of the team that acquired the business from Adaptris in 2015.

With over 30 years’ experience in the software world, Wayne Blakemore originally came from a software development background before proceeding to run several highly successful software businesses. He was Managing Director of Selima Ltd, a SaaS Human Capital Management software provider, from 2012 to 2017 when it was acquired by Access Group.

Matthew Jones continues with the business in the crucial role of Open ECX’s Founder and Strategic Development Director. He will focus on tier-one organisations, strategic business development, product vision and partnerships to help underpin the future growth of the business.

Speaking on Open ECX’s news, Chairman Richard Beaton said,

“Bringing Wayne in to manage the overall business while Matthew focusses on strategic business development will allow us to accelerate product development and expand our customer service offering, whilst unlocking the significant business opportunities I believe are out there in the construction sector for Open ECX.

“I have worked with Wayne in several businesses over many years and I am confident that his proven leadership will further strengthen and progress the business.”

On his appointment, Wayne Blakemore said,

“I’ve really enjoyed helping Open ECX from the side-lines since I became a Non-Executive Director in 2015. It’s been great to see the progress that Matthew Jones and the team have made since then. I’m really pleased to have been given the opportunity to take up the full-time role as CEO and lead such an exciting business onto bigger and better things.”

Open ECX’s scalable software helps streamline and better manage procure-to-pay (P2P) processes, whether they be receiving e-invoices, viewing e-catalogues, placing e-orders or, in the case of their WebContractor solution, managing subcontractor applications for payment and other subcontractor related functions. The Web Contractor solution from Open ECX significantly enhances visibility, control and compliance while helping to facilitate cost-savings and improved trading relationships in the construction supply chain. Industry-leading organisations benefitting from a streamlined payment workflow include Osborne, John Sisk & Son and Readie Construction.
